Do you airbnb?

Long before we had a mortgage and our place was over-run with kids toys, gobs of laundry, and sticky door knobs, we started airbnb'ing our little apartment in Chicago. We'd hop in the car and visit family in Wisconsin for the weekend while reaping the benefits of letting total strangers stay in our home and pay us some decent change for doing so. They get to discover the city by day and come back to a comfy (and squeaky clean and super cute) apartment by night. The first few times were a bit unnerving. Would they have a raging party? Get locked out? Steal our valuables? Bwhahaha. Burn the place down? Nope. They didn't. They were normal people, doing normal vacation things. Leaving our home as nice as they found it.
So, we kept it up. It helped pay for vacations of our own and get us through lean times as well. And when we were fortunate enough to buy our first home, we thought, why should we stop airbnb'ing? Heck, we'll have an even better gig now they we can offer an entire home!
So we did. It's really become our little side business of sorts. My husband is an obsessive cleaner (thank god!) and stay at home dad (thank god again!) and will work on our home for days to get it ready for guests. We love the idea of someone opening our front door and feeling right at home. Here's some pics of our little abode. Coming to Chicago? Stay at our place on the Northshore.
